My favorite overall set design. Some compromises were made, but I loved the rigging, multiple monitors and more “immersive” layout. Definitely a win.
CPAC 2020 – Lockdown Broadcast
The fine folks at Logan Productions hooked us up with live streaming capabilities for a virtual broadcast. Numerous video clips were made for both the desk, side monitor and cut-away segment.

I wasn’t too involved with this event and a vendor provided the scenic for this in-house event. However, I handle the up and down lighting behind the scenic, which required a fair amount of climbing around.

One of the largest displays I’ve designed. The video files were enormous and playback was an issue, so I converted everything to Pro-Res 4:4:2 the day before the event.

We were supposed to be outside for the evening, but there was rain. Luckily, I had actually brought MY OWN lights to the event, which allowed for a quick “Plan B” activities option.

We went subtle on the scenic, choosing wash lighting and drapes. The larger feat was a broadcast from Milwaukee to Marco Island, FL before such things were more common.

dBLOCK Logo
Created with prompts in Midjourney and later fleshed out in Photoshop. The “dB” is a subtle nod to audio decibel units.

Club Anything Flyer
A local nightclub was having a special event and wanted flyers to put up inside and around town. While a simple layout, the question mark graphic was based on their steel outdoor signage at the time.
Jewel Case Print Piece
CD tray liner for a local band. The barcode/SID info was later handled by the print vendor. I also illustrated the “ERC Records” logo.
Custom-Print DVD Label
I shot and edited a live performance for a local band. My deliverables included a fully-authored DVD with on-disc printed labels.

Telecaster Refinishing: Before
I absolutely love the way this guitar sounded, but the original “faux-relic” look of the poly finish drove me nuts. Yup, that’s actually a new guitar.

I discovered less-than-pristine wood under the original poly coat, but the guitar still sounded great.

I am SO happy with how this turned out. Rattle-can finish and clear coat from Stew Mac, plus lots of wet sanding. All is as it should be. (Vacay / travel guitar)
Gear Cabinet and Tolex Build
The box below the amplifier houses an attenuator unit and patchbay to expand the amp’s capabilities. Doing research led me to the OEM supplier used for the amp’s covering and grill, thus allowing me to mimic the look.
Acoustic Treatment
To get a better handle in things in the home “studio,” I built a couple of acoustic absorbers out of OC 703 fiberglass and then covered/framed them on stands.
Studio Paint Prep
No, it’s not a scene from “Dexter”. A whole bunch of covering and taping was needed to control overspray during the ceiling painting.
Studio In-Progress
After framing and painting, I installed vapor barrier and R-30 insulation. Then I covered with fabric and 1×6 pine slats. This is to absorb sound, but not have things too “dead” sounding. Note: I also built the big-honkin’ air filter box – so glad to have this!
Upcycled Acoustic Wall
This mobile sound barrier was made with wood from my previous acoustic absorber stands and fiberglass ceiling tiles. Only the pegboard and casters were new/purchased.
Pedal Board
Another past-time: assembling and programming (MIDI) effect boards for live performances.
